The woreda health office plans, organizes, and manages primary health care services for the district population. It translates regional and national health policies into local implementation plans, prepares annual and quarterly workplans and budgets, allocates resources to health centers and health posts, and coordinates outreach programs (immunization, maternal and child health, and disease prevention campaigns) to ensure essential services reach urban and rural communities.
Service delivery and capacity-building are central tasks: the woreda supervises and supports health facilities, ensures availability of essential drugs and medical supplies, organizes in-service training for health workers, and manages referral linkages to higher-level hospitals. It also oversees emergency response for outbreaks, maintains health records and commodity logistics, and runs programs for reproductive health, nutrition, and chronic disease follow-up to improve population health outcomes.
