Malkaa Noonnoo Subcity, steeped in rich history and cultural heritage, has long been a cornerstone of our region's development. Its streets and neighborhoods tell stories of generations past, reflecting the resilience, tradition, and ingenuity of the communities that shaped it. Every corner of this subcity resonates with a unique blend of history and modernity, making it a vibrant hub for both residents and visitors.

Establishment & Location: Malkaa Noonnoo Subcity was established in 2015 E.C. and is strategically located along the western corridor bordering Addis Ababa. The administrative center lies 11.22 km from Adwa 00 (Central Addis Ababa) and 18.7 km from Shaggar City Administration. It shares boundaries with Addis Ababa to the east, Gafarsa Gujee Subcity to the west, Buraayyuu Subcity to the north, and Sabbataa and Furii Subcities to the south.
Spread across 5147.61 hectares, Malkaa Noonnoo is a subcity of diverse landscapes and purposeful design. Its terrain tells a story of balance between nature and development—649 ha of forest, 1781 ha of agricultural land, 480 ha dedicated to industry, and 2237 ha reserved for services and community spaces. This thoughtful allocation ensures that as we grow, we remain rooted in sustainability and the well-being of our environment.
At the heart of Malkaa Noonnoo are its people—340,133 residents (171,729 men and 168,404 women) who bring life to every corner of the subcity. With 75,047 households, this is a community built on strong family ties, shared aspirations, and collective effort. Every neighborhood, every market, and every public space is a reflection of their energy and resilience.
Connectivity is the lifeline of any growing subcity, and Malkaa Noonnoo is no exception. Our road network stretches 349.75 km—a mix of modern asphalt (23.22 km), gravel (80.74 km), earth (138.42 km), and dry-weather roads (107.37 km) that connect our communities and fuel our economy. While our current road coverage stands at 8.1% (against a standard of 30%),, ongoing corridor developments are paving the way for smoother, safer, and more extensive travel, bringing every destination closer.
A subcity that values its future invests in its youth and well-being. With 162 educational institutions and 69 health facilities, Malkaa Noonnoo is building a foundation where every child can learn, every family can find care, and every individual can thrive. From primary schools to colleges, from health posts to pharmacies, we are committed to nurturing a healthy, educated, and empowered community—because the strength of our subcity lies in the well-being of its people.
